Review: Yankee Candle Cotton Candy

20170214_104526_resized

Probably one of the most popular and sought-after Yankee Candle scents!
Released a few years ago and now retired but you can still find it occasionally on eBay.

I managed to get my hands on a large jar and a couple of votives. Yay!!
The jar has been burned a few hours under the candle warmer lamp since I got it and I have used some pieces of the votives on my wax burner.
Side note: don’t bother burning the votives as a candle. The throw of most votives is very weak.

Thoughts?
It smells like someone punched me in the face with a big bag of freshly spinned warm cotton candy.
It smells like a pink majestic unicorn has farted fluffy cotton candy and sugar in my living room.
Sweetness overload to the max!!!
It’s pure sugar sweetness with a slight warm scent to it. Like warm melted sugar and you will definitely pick up on that distinctive cotton candy scent. Oh my goodness, it is so good.
I can fully understand why this is such a popular scent. The label and colour wax are getting double thumbs up as well. I am definitely planning on adding a second jar to my small collection at some point.

If you love super sweet scents then this is definitely for you. Otherwise you’ll up wanting to chase that unicorn out of your living room ūüėČ

Review: Yankee Candle Moroccan Argan Oil

A few times per week I try to visit TK Maxx in Rotterdam as they often sell large jars for EUR 17.99.
Total bargain, right!!  Especially since the official price for a large Yankee Candle jar is EUR 29.75.
So you understand my need for regular visits to this store ūüėČ

Most of the time when I go there I find jars that are not my cup of tea, such as Aloe Vera, Clean Cotton, Verbena, White Gardenia and Vanilla Cupcake.
Although a few weeks ago I did get very lucky with finding one of my faves: Angel Wings ‚̧
So I decided to pop into the store again last week.

And wow! They had 3 jars of Moroccan Argan Oil! Check out that gorgeous label and colour of wax!!

On cold sniff this scent is really nice. It doesn’t smell as nutty as I thought it would, considering argan oil has a very distinctive nut scent. But this was too much of a bargain to leave behind.

Of course I had to burn this jar the same evening.
I placed it under my candle warmer lamp and within minutes I could already smell it! And within less than 30 minutes I had a full pool (this is quite common with brand new jars under the lamp).

Do I love it? Not right away, be honest. I like it. But it definitely doesn’t smell of argan oil which leaves me a little disappointed. It does smell like soft and sweet, warm spices. At first it also gave me a little bit of a headache. Probably due to the strength of the scent caused by the lamp, but also because there is a hint of patchouli in it.

But having read so many positive reviews and with many stating that this is one of their favorite scents I decided to move the jar into my bedroom the next evening to try again. Instead of using it under the lamp I lid the candle and used an illumalid. And the scent was so much better! Just strong enough (I would say a good medium throw) and the spices were less overpowering. I still cannot detect any argan oil though, so Yankee Candle did not manage to re-create argan oil in any way in my opinion. BUT: when I ignore the label and its name (so that I am not reminded that it is supposed to smell of argan oil) I can totally appreciate the scent as it is.

Do I recommend it? Yes. But don’t expect the scent ¬†to live up to its name description.
