A few times per week I try to visit TK Maxx in Rotterdam as they often sell large jars for EUR 17.99.
Total bargain, right!! Especially since the official price for a large Yankee Candle jar is EUR 29.75.
So you understand my need for regular visits to this store 😉
Most of the time when I go there I find jars that are not my cup of tea, such as Aloe Vera, Clean Cotton, Verbena, White Gardenia and Vanilla Cupcake.
Although a few weeks ago I did get very lucky with finding one of my faves: Angel Wings ❤
So I decided to pop into the store again last week.
And wow! They had 3 jars of Moroccan Argan Oil! Check out that gorgeous label and colour of wax!!
On cold sniff this scent is really nice. It doesn’t smell as nutty as I thought it would, considering argan oil has a very distinctive nut scent. But this was too much of a bargain to leave behind.
Of course I had to burn this jar the same evening.
I placed it under my candle warmer lamp and within minutes I could already smell it! And within less than 30 minutes I had a full pool (this is quite common with brand new jars under the lamp).
Do I love it? Not right away, be honest. I like it. But it definitely doesn’t smell of argan oil which leaves me a little disappointed. It does smell like soft and sweet, warm spices. At first it also gave me a little bit of a headache. Probably due to the strength of the scent caused by the lamp, but also because there is a hint of patchouli in it.
But having read so many positive reviews and with many stating that this is one of their favorite scents I decided to move the jar into my bedroom the next evening to try again. Instead of using it under the lamp I lid the candle and used an illumalid. And the scent was so much better! Just strong enough (I would say a good medium throw) and the spices were less overpowering. I still cannot detect any argan oil though, so Yankee Candle did not manage to re-create argan oil in any way in my opinion. BUT: when I ignore the label and its name (so that I am not reminded that it is supposed to smell of argan oil) I can totally appreciate the scent as it is.
Do I recommend it? Yes. But don’t expect the scent to live up to its name description.
